Webcomic Icon Gallery FAQ

We've gotten some emails about our Webcomic Icon Gallery, and requests to possibly add comics to it. So to keep it all straight, we threw together a few Q&As about the whole thing.

  • How do I get you to do a smiley of my webcomic character?

Well, at this point in time, we are personally approaching artists about doing smileys of their characters. Since we are a family-friendly webcomic, we want to only feature G-PG13 rated comics. However, if you have a comic that would fall into that category, and really want us to do a smiley of your characters, drop us a line. We can't guarantee we'll do it, but we'll give it a look over and fair consideration.

Also, as much as we appreciate fans hoping to promote their favorite strips, we will only consider requests from the artist/writers of the actual strip. Reason being, we want to honor copyrights and such. We always ask permission before doing a smiley, and we want approval from the creator before doing the pixel art version. So, if you REALLY want to see your favorite strip in smiley form, contact the creator and tell them to drop us a line!

  • Do you require a linkback?

Well, y'know, it is a nice courtesy to link back (hint, hint). Seriously, we don't require it. We are doing this just to have fun drawing smilies of our favorite webcomic characters, and not as some sort of gimmick to get linkbacks. We do ask that when your icons first appear, that you make some kind of announcement on your site letting people know about it. But you don't have to link to our homepage or anything, just the gallery page. And if you want it to be a one-shot thing and not link to our site permanently, that's cool with us.

  • Can I grab these and use them on my site?

Anyone can use these icons if they want. However, we do ask that credit be given. So, if you're an author and you want to feature the icons on your site, please give us credit and link to this page on your Credits page or somewhere else (doesn't have to be an overly prominent place). If you're a fan and would like to use them, again, just give us credit. If someone asks, tell them about us. If you put them on your website, give us a nod on your Credits page. We're not really picky, but we would like other people to know it's our art.

  • What if I already have a smiley of my characters?

Again, the family-friendly rule applies. If you're good to go in that respect, then send us the smilies and we'll consider adding them. We will post credit as to the artist (be it you or someone else who did them for you); we're not gonna claim them as our own!

  • How often do you update the Gallery?

Depends on time-constraints. I'd like to say once a month, but it could be less than that. Whenever we do decide to update it, it will usually be on a first Tuesday of the month for our Bitmap Booyah.
