Widgets! You've seen them all over. Funny thing is, they are nothing more than just pieces of code which allow you put content on your webpage. But for those who are not so computer-literate, getting fancy and giving them a cute name has helped de-mystify the process and has helped even the average user add new content to their sites. That said, we have to readily admit we have fallen victim to the craze. I mean, who can't help loving the ability to add the Ms. Pac Man game to your blog!!
We are happy to announce that we have created Bitmap World Widgets! These widgets will allow you to more easily access the comic, as well as helping you introduce other people to the strip. Of course, new content also helps bring return traffic to your page, so it's a win-win situation. Below are a couple of different widgets to choose from. Be sure to use them on your blog, (MySpace) profile, or website.
Widgetbox Widget:
This widget imports the RSS-feed from the site (you did know we have an RSS, didn't you?). When a new comic is put up, a link to that strip is added to the list. You can go to the Widgetbox site and customize the widget's color and size to fit into your site. Widgetbox widgets utilize Flash code, so keep that in mind when considering using it. Click on the "get widget" link to go to the Widget box site and grab the code.
Bitmap World Widget
This is our own custom widget. Nothing fancy--just pure and simple HTML code. That means it will work on pretty much any site, including most of the popular blogging sites, MySpace (and it's various clones), as well as regular stand-alone webpages. This is a teaser widget, meaning it shows the first panel of the most recent Bitmap World comic and you need to click on it to read the rest. Note that since it is straight HTML, if you have the know-how, you can modify the look to fit into your webpage. If you know a bit of CSS, you can really make it fancy. If you don't, though, don't worry. Just cut-and-paste it in, and it'll work. If you want to see the widget live and in action, you can check it out on Mirz's profile page over at Chudah's Corner.
Note: We have a Widgetbox version of the teaser widget, but have had some problems getting it to work right. However, we're still working on it.
