About Bitmap World

This is certainly not a comic about the artwork! But, then again, we don't mean it to be. Though, it should be acknowledged there is quite a challenge having to tell a story with the limitations of smilies and pixel art. Nevertheless, we believe our readers come for the story. While we have developed this comic for all-readers (children included), we hope to particularly entertain those in the tech field. We are computer geeks ourselves, and its with that love that we do Bitmap World.

Michelle/Mirz has been pixel-arting for 7 years. A novelist at heart, she started doing computer art when she couldn't find graphics she needed for her various websites. She gained a particular love for creating images in a small amount of space, and thus took up creating smilies. She has recently ventured into doing more complex artwork, as well as venturing into more sophisticated smiley animation. Mirz is also the creator of the webcomic "Just One More" (which is on extended hiatus)--which she does the old-fashioned way, with pencil and paper.

Jim/Jiles/Ravenswood--depending on what circle you hang out in--is a computer programmer by day, writer/artist by night. His love for webcomics spurred him to start Webcomicfan.com, which sadly closed some time ago. Nevertheless, his love for digital comics continues. He has worked on his own webcomics: Hangmen and Universe 29. Using his knowledge of Perl/CGI, Ravenswood wrote the script (SMComic.cgi) which powers this comic.

Tess/randomypurple is the daughter of Mirz and Ravenswood. She is thrilled that her parents are such geeks, since she loves helping them with web stuff. She has inherited her mother's love of digital artistry, and is continually amazing her friends with the graphics she makes. She has her own deviantART page where she showcases her work. She thinks it's very cool to be a part of "Bitmap World".

The font used for the site logo is BMCube. The fonts used for the comic wording are Bitmapworld, Jumpnone, and Squat. These pixel fonts were created by Mirz specifically for this comic.

The artwork for the comic is created using a variety of smilies. We personally make many of the icons featured. However, there are others we use which are either public domain, or the artists have allowed them to be used for non-commercial purposes. Below are some of the known artists' work we use. We thank them giving their artwork to the internet community, and we hope you'll visit their sites to check out their other work!

Note: since some of the smilies we use have been obtained around the web, the original artist is often not known. If we use one of your smilies in our comic, please let us know. We'll happily give you credit and link you on this page!
